Gethsemani was honoured by a visit from Abbot Khen Rinpoche
Yonten Tamche from the monastery of Drepung Gomang in southern
India, about two hours' drive from Madras.
He was accompanied by several monks stationed currently in
Louisville as well as several members of the board of the
Drepung Gomang institute, the sister organization of the monastery,
in Louisville. They were led on a tour of the monastery by Br.
Paul, accompanied by several other monks of Gethsemani, and
paused for a photograph in front of Thomas Merton's grave.
In this photo, above, from the left in the back row are Geshe Sangay,
living in Louisville, Brother Paul, Abbot Khen Rinpoche, Father
James, Geshe Kalsang Rapgyal, also from Louisville, Brother
Lawrence, and Chanzoe Tenpa Dawa, director of Drepung Gomang
monastery who acted as translator.
From the left kneeling in the front row are Keith Schmidt,
treasurer, Anne Dolma Schmidt, VP, and Anne Walter, president,
all of the board of the Drepung Gomang Institute.
The Drepung Gomang Institute is currently looking for a permanent
home for the teaching centre in Louisville and is actively
fundraising for its purchase.
