Fr. Michael Casey, a monk of the Abbey at Tarrawara in Australia,
graced the community with his presence from the 10th through the
16th of June.
He has recently been working on a translation of selected homilies
from Aelred of Rievaulx's recently recovered and edited collections.
He presented a series of eight conferences on Aelred, using these
and other homilies as illustration. His contention is that often
we look only to Aelred's treatises for his thought, and that the
lesser-known homilies actually contain more that is of practical
value, even today, for the monastic life.
Fr. Michael Casey is a well-known author whose books include
Athirst for God , a study of St. Bernard, Toward God,
thoughts on the value of monastic practices for everyday
spirituality, Sacred Reading, a book about lectio divina,
Fully Human, Fully Divine, reflections on the nature
of Christ, and Strangers to the City, thoughts on the value
of monastic life in the modern world.
