Sr. Meg Funk graced the abbey with a week of conferences, from the 17th through the
22 of January, on Lectio Divina.
Lectio Divina is most often understood as a slow reading and medition on
scripture. Sr. Meg stressed that the process does not end with the lectio
session, but continues throughout the day. Lectio encompasses the whole
of a contemplative's life. "It is what we do," she says, "when we are not doing
anything else."
She taught mainly from her new book, Lectio Matters, published by Continuum
Publications. Her conferences were aimed at the novices and juniors, but many in
the community took advantage of a general invitation to attend.
Sr. Meg is a Benedictine nun from Our Lady of Grace monastery in Beech Grove,
Indiana. She was a longtime member and
president of the board of directors of the Monastic Interreligious Dialogue (MID).
