Dr. Christopher Ruddy spoke to the community on Friday evening and Saturday
afternoon, the first and second days of April.
On Friday evening, he spoke about two approaches to change in the Church, the
way of truth and the way of love. He contrasted the views of Yves Congar and
Hans Kung, arguing that Yves Congar exemplified the way of love, while Hans
Kung was an example of the way of truth. While handling the complex ideas of
each fairly, he concluded that Congar's approach was the more fruitful, that
truth without a generous measure of love led easily to extremes.
On Saturday, he spoke about the role of the priest in the modern church,
recognizing that the role of the priest is different than in the past, but still
entirely necessary.
Dr. Ruddy is an associate professor of systematic theology at Catholic University
of America in Washington D.C. He has published several books and many articles.
He is married with four children.
