The Archbishop of Louisville, the Most Reverend Joseph Kurtz, visited the abbey over Thanksgiving for a brief retreat, as he has each year since his appointment.

He took the time to address the community in a special chapter on Friday. He has recently finished his post as president of the USCCB and spoke to us about some of the highlights of his time in that position. Naturally, his meetings with Pope Francis rank high among his memories.

He also spoke about continuing issues confronting the Church in the coming years, particularly in the area of immigration. Then he brought us up to date on various initiatives around the diocese.

We were grateful for his presence and his talk, and look forward to seeing more of him as he will be more easily able to visit us for regular retreats through the year.
