Mother Maureen Ndubuisi, a Trappistine sister from Nigeria, spent Labor Day weekend with the monks of Gethsemani.

Mother Maureen recently finished eight years as prioress of St. Justina's Monastery. With the recent election of a new prioress, Mother Maureen is visiting a few U.S. houses before an extended stay at Mount St. Mary's Abbey in Wrentham, Mass.

Br. Evaristus, Gethsemani's long-term Nigerian guest from Awhum, was able to pick her up at the airport in Lousville and enjoyed the opportunity to speak in his native Igbo language.

During the Sunday Chapter talk, Mother Maureen addressed the monks, giving an overview of life at Abakaliki as well as her perspectives on the complex political situation in Nigeria. On Sept. 3, Dom Elias drove her to Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Crozet, Virginia. After her visit there, she will go on to Wrentham.

Founded by Glencairn in 1982, St. Justina's Monastery in Abakaliki is the only community of Trappistine nuns in Nigeria. St. Justina's was raised to the status of Major Priory in April 2012.

We thank Mother Maureen for taking time to meet with us and wish her a pleasant stay with our sisters in Wrentham.
