Due to the number of requests, one person cannot have more than one weekday retreat and one weekend retreat in any calendar year.

The retreat house is primarily a place for individuals who want to have a time of private retreat in the context of a monastery and its communal prayer life. Groups are usually not accommodated.

Reservations can be made no more than four months in advance of the desired date. For example, if you want a retreat to begin on May 10th, you can call no earlier than January 10th.

Usual office hours are Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon, Eastern (Daylight Savings) time.Notice of cancellation or other change in plans should be made as soon as possible so that others waiting to make a retreat may be given an opportunity to do so.

Other Considerations

On Mondays and Fridays, rooms for new arrivals are available in the Retreat House after 11:00 a.m., in the monastery wing after 1:00 p.m.Guests are asked to check in before 6:30 p.m.

When retreatants depart on Mondays or Fridays, rooms must be vacated by 8:00 a.m., but it is acceptable to vacate the room and then use the common rooms for several hours thereafter.Offerings to the abbey are on a free-will basis, according to means. These contributions are essential for operating the retreat house.

Individual guests must be at least eighteen years of age. (Note: High-school age guests under 18 are welcome if accompanied by an adult.)

Meals are prepared by the monks and served to both the monastic community and the retreatants. While the monks do not eat meat, it is served to the guests several times per week. The kitchen cannot provide meals for those requiring special diets. Retreatants may bring along snack foods and beverages.

Pets cannot be kept in the retreat house.

The nearest airport is Louisville International, fifty miles north of the abbey. Retreatants arriving by plane, bus or train in Louisville must arrange their own transportation to the abbey.

The nearest sizable town is Bardstown, Kentucky, approximately twelve miles north of the abbey.
