Tibetan Oracle visited
Gethsemani
An unprecedented event between the
peoples and cultures of Tibet and the United States is happening:
The Medium of Tibet’s Chief State Oracle, Venerable Thupten Ngodup
(“Nechung Kuten”), with the blessings of His Holiness the 14th Dalai
Lama and with special permission from the Tibetan Government in
Exile's Office of Religious and Cultural Affairs, is in the midst of
his first public visit to the United States this summer to offer
insights and directions on individual responsibility in the world.
Traveling from Nechung Monastary in Dharamsala, the foothills of the
Himalayas—“the rooftop of the world”—Nechung Kuten will be
discussing and exchanging ideas on the critical issues of our times,
delivering lectures and conducting open dialogues with audiences
across the US from June 15 to August 8, 2007.
As a cabinet-level official of the
Tibet Government in exile, The Oracle’s knowledge is usually
reserved for advising the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government.
This tour will also be part of his effort to preserve the lineage of
the Nechung Kuten and help fulfill a prophecy that was handed down
hundreds of years ago to develop a college of Monasteries known as
the Dreyang. After San Francisco, the tour will continue on to
Portland, Los Angeles, Aspen, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago,
Louisville, Washington, DC, New York City and Miami. The Oracle will
return to San Francisco for two final appearances in the City on
August 8.
During his visit to Louisville, he
came to Gethsemani and met with our monks. Below are some pictures
for you to enjoy.
