Bro. Thaddeus Palechek

I come from Slovenian stock in Cleveland, Ohio and have a younger brother, Bob, who lives in California with his family.

While a student at St. Joseph High School in 1957, I made a retreat here and was inspired by the reverence of the monks at prayer and the aura of the liturgy. I entered the community for the first time in 1959, and left in 1964 to take care of my mother after my father died. Then I returned in the fall of 1979.

My work assignments have included infirmary cook, clerk at the business office, laundry manager.
The fact that I came back to Gethsemani after 15 years shows that this life is worth living and has great value. By maintaining a good sense of humor, I’ve enjoyed monastic life and have a deep love for prayer and the spiritual quest. I took solemn vows in 1984 and am still on my honeymoon! “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Cor 9:7)
